9 Things to Know before You arrive in Canada
Today’s blog is a bit different.
Those who are planning to come here and those who are on their way! Must know these 9 things before coming here. My friend XYZ is from Pakistan and he is planning to come here. He asked me to make a video on important things he should keep in mind before coming to Canada. I will give you important tips about the things you should keep in mind before coming here. Stay with me!
1: The First thing which you should know before coming to Canada
The first thing you should remember before coming here is that, whatever your profession is, You won’t get a job here easily. And this is a very important point! People would say that you should come here and everything looks well. But it’s not easy to find a job when you come here. You might get labour jobs easily, but it would be kinda difficult to find a job according to your profession in the start. Because you don’t have Canadian studies or experience. That’s why the First thing you should remember is that you won’t get a job easily.
2: The Second thing which you should know before coming to Canada
The second problem you will face here is financial problems. You might be a rich man in India or Pakistan. But you’ll face financial issues here. You’ve to travel by bus or you can have enough money to afford an uber every time. Some people afford it but most people don’t. You have to take buses or you might have to walk to the stores for groceries. Because getting a driving licence here requires a lot of time. So keep all the struggles in mind. Sometimes you need to buy groceries and you have to take a bus. Try to rent a place where you can easily find convenience. If you think you can walk that much, it would be a good idea for summer but it would be difficult in winter because of too much snow. So try to rent a place where you find different communities near you. So keep in mind that you have to travel by bus. And if you think that there would be no difficulty in getting a job! you might be wrong. Bring some cash with you when you come here. But if you have the money you can book Uber whenever you want. The problem is sorted and the point is noted!
3: The Third thing which you should know before coming to Canada
If you are a doctor, engineer, lawyer etc in Pakistan. Your experience once would be counted zero in the start as soon as you reach here. You won’t get a job easily at the start. You have to do courses and get some experience. You need all this to reach their level and get good jobs. I was an Uber driver in 2019. We often went downtown late at night for coffee. There used to be many Indian and Pakistani Uber drivers once I was chatting with some people. One of them was an engineer. The second one was also very experienced. And the third one was a very professional web designer. I don’t know much about their profession but they were very professional and experienced. I had a chat with them and they told me that they were all Uber drivers. They all were qualified but they had one thing in common. They were newly immigrated here and were trying to live a better life. And they were driving in Uber just to fulfil their expenses. I just want to say that whenever you come here you have to refresh your knowledge when it’s done, you can easily get a good job here.
4: The Fourth thing which you should know before coming to Canada
Another important reason is Snow. When snow falls here, I swear to God it reaches your knees. In 2019 I will be living in Montreal. When we woke up in the morning, we came to know that our car was under the snow! Toronto and the GTA are safe from heavy snowfall, But it snows heavily in Montreal and the west side. But it’s still too much snow here. If you like winter then it’s good for you, But if you don’t then be careful. But there is a proper heating system in houses that you can even wear a vest in your home. That’s not the issue. But when you’ve to go out for work, you might freeze at once. So keep this in mind before coming here. You might think that it’s normal but that is not the case. It’s freezing cold! it could freeze everything, Everything means everything.
5: The Fifth thing which you should know before coming to Canada
This reason is a bit funny.
I used to think that and I often tell others about this. That there are so many taxes. But I used to say that taxes are not a big problem. When I’ll earn I’ll pay the tax. When we work here, the government asks us to pay the taxes, the tax is deducted from our salaries which makes us sad. We can get rid of taxes in India and Pakistan but not here. And you must have to pay the tax. But in return, the government facilitates you a lot! It gives you medical, transportation and schooling facilities. There are so many facilities that make us forget about the tax.
Point to be noted!
6: The Sixth thing which you should know before coming to Canada
One of the main reasons is that Canada is so far away, very far away you might have to travel for 14 to 15 hours but it depends where you live. If you take a flight from Karachi or Mumbai, You have to travel for at least 14 to 15 hours. It’s not like Dubai or Uk. It takes 2 hours to reach Dubai. And from Uk, it almost takes 7 to 8 hours to reach. But it takes almost 16 hours to reach Canada from Pakistan. Once you come here, you need a solid reason to go back. Not just to say Hello Hi! Just like people from Saudi Arabia and Dubai reach there in seconds. Also, keep that in mind that you have to cover long distances! You know what I mean.
7: The Seventh thing which you should know before coming to Canada
If you are an extrovert, you like to meet others. I am from Sialkot and we used to play cards at Head-Marala late at night. We used to have too much fun! Socializing is a part of our culture. If you are an extrovert and you are coming here, You might feel alone here. If you have relatives here, They might not meet you but if they do! that would be for a really short time. Because of my busy schedule. Nobody has time for gatherings. If you are a social person, you have to live a very dry life here at the start. Even your blood relatives don’t have much time for you because of a busy life.
Keep that in mind!
8: The Eighth thing which you should know before coming to Canada
Most important point especially for women that you won’t get a maid here. Washing the dishes or clothes, cleaning the house or getting your kids ready, You have to do it all by yourself. Maids are very expensive here which we can’t afford. But in Pakistan we have different maids for dishes, cleaning the house etc. You can ask your driver to buy the groceries but you can’t do this here. In the start, this thing would really make you feel tired. If you are not used to doing housework then practice it first in your house there before coming here. Do everything by yourself or you’ll pass out (just joking).
9: The Ninth thing which you should know before coming to Canada
Last but not the least, most important of all. If you are coming here alone or with family, You have to start everything from scratch. And it is kinda difficult for some people to start from scratch. In India and Pakistan people help us out but no one help here, not even known persons. They don’t help with many problems. I just want to say that you should keep in mind that you have to start a new life. And their rents are much higher than in India and Pakistan. A big amount of money you will bring would be used for rent. Keep that point in your mind too.
Keeping that in mind if someone asks me that if we should come here or not? You should come to Canada? Of course, you should!
